Who we are
“ReGeneration Station” what could that possibly mean?
When we decided to build out this market I wanted a simple name that would encompass everything that we envision for this property. I wanted to create the feel of an old time country market. The place where people gathered not only to engage in commerce but also to discuss their latest project at home or new methods for their farms, to discuss ways they were teaching and raising their kiddos. A place that welcomed all ages from the sage elders to the curious youngsters.
At the heart of it I wanted to create a space that fostered community and tied it into all of the things that my heart has been yearning for. A return to a style of thinking and living where we acknowledge how connected all aspects of life are, how connected WE really all are.
My first mission in this life is a strong relationship with my children and building multigenerational thinking into them, that is the real meaning behind the emphasis on “generation” in our name but also we believe in the promise and results of regenerative agriculture. As I pondered this word “regeneration” it continued to speak to me. I realized it was the word that applied to all aspects of what I hope to create on our land. The regeneration of our family ties, of living in community. The regeneration of our soil health, of the nutrient density in our foods. The regeneration of caring for our own health but also the health of the land, of our plants and animals, of those around us. I could go on but I think you get the idea.
We have covered the first half but what about “station”? is it just because it rhymes? I will admit it gives my heart a certain buoyancy and joy to have a sing song name but also we live in an area with a rich railroad history and I want to honor the community I am grafting into and that I’m wanting to pour into and (yes, here is the word again) regenerate and revitalize. The land we live on used to have the railway running through it and that physical connection to the past has been one of my favorite parts of working with this land. A rail station became the center of an emerging community, the place where goods and people came in and went out was the natural gathering place, I want to build that here.
What a flight of fancy this sounds like as I write this, such a lofty dream, but I believe it to be obtainable. I believe this to be something that many of us have yearned for for many years and either we haven’t been able to put a name to it or we just haven’t made the leap into making it a reality. I believe by creating this space we will attract like minded people into this space. A “if you build it, they will come” mentality if you will. So please join us at our market or follow along as we work to create a station to regenerate our lives.
